| Another important set of components not to overlook is your timing belt. The timing belt keep the pistons and cylinders aligned and running in sync. If the belt breaks, then the pistons will most likely hit the valves, and you will have some very expensive engine rework on your hands. Don't chance it - use new parts here. | Water Pumps |
| Is your BMW starting to run a little hot? Is it overheating while sitting at idle? It's possible you may need to replace your water pump. An easy way to check your water pump is to look underneath the car and check for water seepage out of the pump. This is an indication that water is leaking past the shaft bearings and that the pump is on its way out. Another way to check is to squeeze and hold the upper radiator hose for a few seconds (CAUTION: hose may be hot) while the car is running. If you feel no pressure building up, it is a sign that water is not circulating and the pump may be bad. Also, always remember to clean the mating surface between the block and water pump thoroughly, and use a silicone based sealer (RTV, etc..) when mounting the pump to the block. |

| If you find that your car seems to be running really hot, and then suddenly cooling down, then you might need a new thermostat. The thermostat regulates the cooling system in order to maintain the proper operating temperature for the car. When it fails, the car can overheat, or go through sporadic cycles of running hot then cool. Always remember to replace the gaskets at the same time you replace the thermostat, to prevent any leaks. |
